Emerson College’s Los Angeles Center (ELA) is seeking part time faculty to apply to a pool of faculty available to teach in the College’s Comedic Arts program. Planned offerings include courses such as 1) sketch comedy performance and writing, 2) the business of comedy, 3) digital content creation, and 4) comedic scene study.

Ideal candidates will have significant professional experience and achievement in the entertainment industry, particularly in comedy writing, performance, or television/film development, an appropriate advanced degree in hand (preferred), and experience teaching at the undergraduate level. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Members of underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Please be sure to indicate for which course listed above you are interested in being considered. (For questions and further details around specific course offerings, please email ELA_Academics@emerson.edu.)

Adjunct faculty at ELA work under the supervision of the Assistant Academic Dean and in consultation with program directors and senior faculty in the Comedic Arts program on Emerson’s Boston campus.

Interested applicants should submit a CV, cover letter, and evidence of teaching effectiveness. Applicants for the positions will not be notified of their status unless they are contacted by the department chair or their designee.

Applicants should withdraw their application from the pool if they are no longer interested.

Please note, in the job application where there is the "CV/Cover Letter/Additional Documents"drop box, you must include all of the required materials that are requested above. You can upload each document separately or as one combined PDF (preferred). Max file attachment is 5MB - if a file is too large, consider breaking up the file into separate PDF's.

Emerson’s BFA degree in Comedic Arts is the first of its kind in the country. It integrates writing, performance and production with new courses that examine comedy from a variety of perspectives. Immersive and hands-on in its approach, this major draws its faculty and courses from Emerson’s departments of Visual and Media Arts, Performing Arts, Writing, Literature & Publishing, and the Institute for the Liberal Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies.

Emerson Los Angeles Center (ELA) is a residential semester away program for Emerson College juniors and seniors. Qualified Emerson students may enroll for one semester of study at ELA and take on a full semester of internship opportunities and coursework, as well as personal and professional development workshops in the heart of Hollywood. Up to 210 students enroll in the fall and spring semesters. Students who participate in the ELA program gain valuable internship experience, build connections with other students and key players in their chosen fields, and create a footprint in the local community by participating in community service programs.
