Job Summary
The Assessment Associate provides support to ensure that the content for products and services meets or exceeds expectations for content, quality, and timeliness and that our organization's position as a leading provider of English language assessments and services is enhanced.
The Assessment Associate performs limited item, form, and pool reviews, contributes to the compilation of forms and pools, and contributes to the development of documentation, training materials, and educational materials as needed.
The Assessment Associate has the opportunity to progress to the position of Assessment Specialist after one year or more of successful performance at the Assessment Associate level.
Responsibilities*
- Provide basic content development support in at least one skill area (e.g., conduct fairness reviews and fair-use and fact checks, content reviews)
- Conduct metadata/specification checks on content being readied for inclusion on tests, reviews of test forms at various stages of production
- Assist with the construction of tests for all programs
- Maintain documentation including, but not limited to, item writer guidelines and test specifications
- Contribute to rater training materials creation and quality assurance review of speaking examiners and writing raters. Participate in the rating of writing and/or speaking tests
- Contribute to the development and quality review of teacher support and practice materials
- Other contributions commensurate with level and experience as required
Required Qualifications*
- M.A. in field closely related to foreign language testing (e.g., TESOL, applied linguistics, language testing)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to develop test items and other educational content for English language learners
- Ability to apply the theory of second language acquisition to determine aspects of English that are more or less difficult for learners at different levels
- Ability to achieve results in a high-pressure environment
- Ability to receive constructive critical feedback on quality of work
- Good time management/organizational skills
- Competent user of basic office IT products and the ability to quickly learn additional software programs as needed
- Experience in education (e.g., teaching, tutoring, test preparation)
Desired Qualifications*
- Some experience in test development and/or speaking and/or writing assessment or test administration
- Experience with language teaching
Work Locations
Michigan Language Assessment is seeking candidates located in or around Ann Arbor and supports a fully remote work from home schedule with occasionally scheduled in person activities.
Upon request, qualified candidates outside of the Ann Arbor commuting area may be considered.
