The Assistant Manager of the Journalism Production Center plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily evening operations, ensuring smooth functionality and high-quality support within the Journalism Production Center. This position involves supervising student staff, providing technical guidance and training, and maintaining the Center's equipment and systems to facilitate a productive learning environment for both students and faculty.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Oversee the daily evening operations of the Journalism Production Center, (JPC) ensuring high-quality user services.
  • Assist, support, and troubleshoot student and faculty use of the JPC editing systems, control room, and studio.
  • Train faculty, students, and classes to operate the Journalism Production Center's technical equipment and software.
  • Supervise and train approximately 15 part-time student employees each semester.
  • Coordinate, along with the Manager, schedules of the Journalism Production Center, including academic course use, outside student use, and reservations of the evolving media suite.
  • Administer and manage the mass storage video server for the journalism curriculum.
  • Support the Manager, JPC, in ensuring successful planning and installation of new equipment.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs and installations with the Manager, JPC.
  • Coordinate computer repairs and software updates with IT.
  • Manage field equipment and edit suite reservations for Journalism students.
  • Research and support planning for facility upgrades.
  • Perform base-level maintenance and repairs.
  • Stay current with technology trends in media production equipment by attending local vendor presentations and demonstrations, industry conference wrap-ups, on-site vendor demonstrations, and reading industry literature.
  • Support the department with special productions and projects that use the Center's facility or other college events.
  • Collaborate with journalism faculty to implement new technologies and methods and encourage their use among students.
  • Serve as a Technical advisor to the WEBN student organization.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform the job.

  • A bachelor’s degree in video/television production, broadcast journalism, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of broadcast news production or TV facility operations, with expertise in control room systems, automation, video acquisition/editing, Media Asset Management, and non-linear editing (Final Cut Pro X, Premiere Pro CC) required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – This may be representative but not all-inclusive of the knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.

  • ENPS (or other newsroom computer system) Control Room Automation for news (preferably Ross Overdrive), Adobe Creative Suite, tapeless video acquisition and editing, knowledge of Media Asset Management, basic video/computer equipment maintenance/repair skills, strong knowledge of audio/video system setup and base-level engineering.
  • Editing/post-production, television control room experience

  • Scheduled weekly hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Compensation: $24.30 - $29.15 hourly, commensurate with experience.

Grade of Position: S-23-06NE

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Division: Division of Information Technology

This position will be exclusively represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 888 for purposes of wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
