Summary

The Breeder Operations Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating breeder operations to ensure the delivery of a quality product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports Allen Harim’s Vision, Mission and Values
  • Directs the day-to-day breeder operations to ensure the required quantity and quality of hatch eggs are available for hatcheries.
  • Implements and monitors all pullet and breeder production programs. Ensures the training and development of all pullet and breeder flock service techs.
  • Provides communication and direction for all contract pullet and breeder producers.
  • Monitors the development of all contract pullet and breeder producers as well as the development of the pullet placements, moves, vaccinations, and sales to ensure proper hatch egg numbers.
  • Provides performance and cost numbers to accounting and upper management.
  • Monitors pullet and breeder flock health and adherence to blood testing procedures.
  • Monitors and promotes driver safety with all service people
  • Effectively manage the overall operations (Rearing and Laying) of all breeder farms in Liberty, NC and achieve the targeted production of quality eggs
  • Monitor the breeder birds regularly for weight profiles, uniformity, feed consuming, mortality etc and verify these parameters against standards mentioned by the breeders suppliers
  • Ensure that the quality of eggs supplied to the hatchery are healthy and vital and of the required fertility
  • Take measures to reduce and eradicate vertically transmitted diseases. 
  • Coordinate with external consultants for guidance and advice on disease eradication
  • Plan the breeder stock placement and movement with assistance from breeder farm managers 
  • Coordinate with hatchery and logistics departments for deliveries of eggs
  • Ensure maintenance of minimum stock levels for breeding stock, equipment, medication and vaccinations
  • Devise and implement initiatives to optimize cost of breeder farm operations and minimize the cost per hatching egg
    Audit breeder farms regularly to check on the level of adherence to set standard operating procedures
    Ensure compliance with Company and OSHA safety guidelines.
    Ensure effective use of resources, company assets and equipment

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED required.  Bachelors degree in a related field preferred.
  • 5 years of management experience in a directly related field.
  • 5 years of directly related experience in poultry grow-out operations.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work within budgets and manage costs and cost reporting on a weekly basis.
  • Demonstrated understanding and exposure to both Biosecurity and Animal Welfare principles.
  • Computer skills to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).  SAP experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external partners.
  • Must be able to work varying shifts, holidays and weekends as needed.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; must also be a good listener.
