Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Business Development and Client Intelligence Manager to join our dynamic team. This role is critical in monitoring macro and geopolitical trends, researching market developments, and leveraging data analytics to identify new business opportunities within the financial industry. The ideal candidate will work closely with our Financial Institutions Group (FIG) and key partners to enhance client relationships, develop strategic business initiatives, and support legal operations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Business Intelligence:

  • Monitor and analyze macro and geopolitical trends affecting the financial industry, advising on strategies to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
  • Conduct market research and data analysis to identify trends and new business opportunities within the Group.
  • Collaborate with internal resources to find synergies and assist attorneys in lead generation and pursuit.

Client and Sector Analysis:

  • Perform in-depth analysis of clients and sectors to develop strategies for cross-selling and enhancing key strategic client relationships.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of FIG and support 'rainmaker' partners in business acquisition.
Business Development Support:
  • Assist in creating compelling business propositions, including sales decks, and coach partners on delivering key sales messages.
  • Project manage the drafting of pitches and proposals, collaborating with FIG BD colleagues and other practice groups.
  • Track and report on the return on investment for major BD expenditures.
  • Assisting with other ad hoc marketing initiatives and responsibilities as and when required.

Integration and Cross-Selling Initiatives:

  • Facilitate the integration of lateral partners and leverage the firm's capabilities for new client opportunities.
  • Develop and execute cross-selling efforts, BD, and profile-raising initiatives in line with the firm's strategic objectives.

Technology and Data Analytics:

  • Utilize technology and data mining tools to create and maintain client and practice dashboards, focusing on key performance metrics.
  • Work with the Client Intelligence and Legal Operations teams to support data-driven decision-making.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Grow revenue through business development, key account management, and marketing efforts tailored to clients' FIG needs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key attorneys, providing BD and profile-raising coaching as necessary.

Practice Profile Raising:

  • Coordinate and plan practice profile-raising activities, including conferences, seminars, and sponsorships, ensuring budget adherence and ROI analysis.

Requirements

Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the functions of the job.

Experience: Five (5+) years of experience in legal operations, legal marketing and / or professional services environment.

Skills:

  • The role will require strong organizational skills, time management, initiative, focus on service delivery and excellent attention to detail and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Must have genuine interest in financial services, with a desire to stay current on industry developments and trends
  • The candidate must be able to communicate well, with excellent oral and written skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability; ability to multi-task, stay organised and manage competing priorities; able to demonstrate initiative.
  • Highly visible to all partners and lawyers in the group, personable and approachable
  • Collaborative, resourceful, proactive and creative
  • Commercial in outlook
  • Proactive and solutions-based approach, as well as having a positive approach to delivering needs of internal and external clients
  • Strong computer skills including data analytics tools and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office are also essential.

Other

Supervisory Responsibilities: No immediate line management responsibilities but may oversee other members of the Marketing team on key projects and initiatives.

Equipment To Be Used: Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, calculator, fax, machine, copier, scanner, etc.

  • Ability to utilize technology, including computers and telecommunication devices. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office is also essential.

  • Must have Flexibility and adaptability to navigate changes, unexpected challenges, and evolving priorities.
  • Must work in office as required.

Working Conditions: You will be required to work in the office at minimum 3 days per week. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor.

Pay Ranges: This represents the presently-anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith's pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

  • Princeton - $120k - $165k
  • Pittsburgh and Dallas - $100k - $145k
  • Philadelphia - $100k - $145k
  • New York - $130k - $175k
