Please review the following job description:

Under minimal supervision, assist with the daily management and operations of the Collection Department for accounts in default, collection of return premium from insurance carriers and insurance agents and collection of deficiency balances due from insureds. Work closely with management and Premium Finance Counsel on bankruptcy accounts to ensure collection problems are identified and resolved to minimize loan loss. Provide support to Divisional Collections Manager and in their absence, supervise daily activities of the department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Assist in the supervision of collection activities and provide guidance to staff on complex and sensitive cancelled accounts.
2. Monitor the timeliness of activities of collection specialists and ensure follow-up is completed on assigned account portfolio.
3. Communicate with insurance carriers, intermediaries and insurance agents/brokers to verify vital information regarding cancelled accounts, and document files accordingly with information collected.
4. Pursue collection activities on assigned portfolio of cancelled accounts as outlined in line of business policies and procedures.
5. Respond to telephone and written inquires on assigned loan portfolio or when appropriate, respond to inquiries that have been redirected from other departments.
6. Communicate regularly with internal sales and marketing staff regarding cancelled accounts, losses and agency delinquencies.
7. Review and make decisions on handling of assigned accounts once initial carrier collections activities have been completed.
8. Exercise judgment within established authority limits to make decisions related to the charge-off of delinquent loan balances and prepare to explain the reasons for the loss.
9. Recognize the warning signs of agency fraud/non-compliance and ensure that management is notified of these instances for further investigation and/or action.
10. Coordinate the completion of agent portfolio audits resulting from UFO filings to insure promt action is taken to minimize losses.
11. Review delinquent loans and make determinations on deferring or proceeding with cancellation requests to the insurance carrier.
12. Review payments received on cancelled loans and determine appropriate action.
13. Compute interest adjustments using various calculation methods, calculate payoffs and prepare refunds.
14. Assist in the training of less experienced Carrier Returns Specialists.
15. Serve as back-up to department manager in their absence.
16. Assist department manager with associate performance reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Five years of experience in financial services industry including two years of experience in collection activities
3. Ability to work independently
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
5. Excellent organizational and analytical skills
6. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
7. Ability to travel, occasionally overnight

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Associate's or Bachelor's degree from a technical school in a related subject
2. Experience in the premium financing or insurance industry
