Full Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Communications Strategist Political Participation for our non-profit/social justice client. This role will be hybrid onsite 2 days per week in D.C.
The Communications Strategist Political Participation will serve as the subject matter expert responsible for the development of communications tactics and strategies that amplify the work of the organization and positions that organization as the stalwart legal guardian for racial equality/
Responsibilities:
- Draft statements and press releases; advise on media advisories, and press pitches. Draft issue related talking points, messaging, and leader remarks. Develop proactive, original, and journalistic content on issues related to political participation.
- Provide rapid-response support as issues and events warrant.
- Work with the Digital and Media Relations divisions to guide content creation and develop appropriate internal and external tactics.
- Proactively follow current events in the media as well as hot button events unfolding on the ground to monitor trends and identify emerging issues related to political participation.
- Participate in internal meetings, serve as communications subject matter expert; lead the other members of the Communications team in understanding the priorities and how to direct work; curate relationships with relevant external organizations and networks.
- Conceive, develop and execute notable, actionable plans and projects that meet brand standards and elevate its work and honors its history, in partnership with designated pillar/initiative point person.
- Occasional travel required for events in Atlanta, D.C. and for office visits
Must haves:
- 8+ years experience
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Political Science, Public Policy or related professional experience
- Advanced editorial and communications, as well as analysis and critical thinking skills
- Expert writing skills
- Periodic travel around 10% of the time, mainly to D.C., possibly other locations
Nice to haves:
- Master's degree
- Background in non-profit
- Passion for social justice and/or racial equality
