The role:
Join our team as a construction specialist! In this role, you will be a field inspector and work at construction sites with contractors and agency staff. A day in the life:
Participate in project development activities prior to contracts being awarded.
Review pre-award contract documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Read and interpret contract documentation.
Inspect and monitor construction work to ensure it complies with plans and specifications.
Measure and record contractors work and prepare documents to justify payment.
Act as a point of contact for communication with contractors, the public or other interested parties.
Monitor traffic control and safety procedures.
Provide project information to internal staff, and oversee field and office personnel in documentation, payment and record assembly duties.
Perform contract administration duties including the preparation of documents such as daily progress reports.
Ensure that contractors and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) subcontractors meet contract requirements.
May require working long hours and being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays.
Work is performed outdoors 50% or more of the time and requires occasional overnight travel, working in adverse weather, moving around rough terrain, working near hazardous materials and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Through an equal pay assessment, we will determine the salary offer using the information you provide in your submitted application materials. The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by 6%.

Minimum qualifications:
Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
OR
A bachelor's degree in civil or transportation-related engineering.
Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Experience, education or training in highway construction.
Experience reading and interpreting highway construction contract plans and specifications.
Experience implementing or inspecting temporary traffic control in highway construction work zones.
Experience implementing or inspecting temporary or permanent erosion control best management practices in highway construction work zones.
