About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Database Principal Engineer to support our Wealth and Investment Management Technology teams. In this role, you will support critical initiatives related to data center and cloud migrations.


In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the Enterprise Database Strategy with expert level advise regrading innovative and champion technologies and blueprints for the data center and public could migrations.
  • Develop policies, procedures and training materials across all database management solutions and help a large set of application development teams upskill to new non-relational platforms.
  • Make decisions and resolve issues regarding objectives and operations of the fleet assets in the Wealth and Investment Management database management area to meet business objectives.
  • Make decisions in complex and multi-faceted situations requiring solid understanding of data engineering and storage needs of application partners to inform prioritization, roadmap, and architecture design, that influence and lead broader work team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives.
  • Strategically collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and senior managers to ensure database strategies align with product solutions to build for optimal performance and cost.
  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 7+ years of systems engineering or technology architecture experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 7+ years of Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of experience leading significant change in a large, complex technology organization
  • 2+ years experience with cloud migrations and/or datacenter moves
  • 2+ years of experience with large enterprise data initiatives
  • 2+ years of experience with large database migrations on-premise and/ or public cloud

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience implementing or utilizing big data environments (Hadoop, GCP, AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Fluency with relational and non-relational database products
  • Hands-on experience with database administration activities and scripting
  • Experience with data pipelines and storage optimization
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), containerization technologies, datacenter / cloud migration-related activities
  • Experience in designing and executing governance programs of large-scale change initiatives
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, PowerPoint, MS Office suite, Tableau, PowerBI
  • Cloud computing technology experience
  • Cloud Certifications of Microsoft AZ-900, Google Cloud Practitioner (GCP) or AWS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Knowledge and understanding of critical site controls, risk management, disciplined data center environments, high availability requirements, and security systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of data center critical facilities systems networking, storage, database and linux/windows OS-based systems
  • An understanding of the regulatory, and professional standards for financial services technology.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence in a large matrixed organization
  • Proven ability to solve highly complex business problems / blockers across a matrixed organization
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically, and to develop effective long-term solutions to complex problems
  • Highly organized, self-starter who can operate effectively in a dynamic and complex environment


Job Expectations:

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$144,400.00 - $300,000.00
