Job Summary
In addition to being the largest transit system in Massachusetts, which maintains hundreds of utility accounts throughout the dozens of communities it serves, the MBTA is also an electrical utility with both commercial and concessionary customers. The Decarbonization Analyst will work with the Energy and Environment Department of the MBTA to assist in the identification and implementation of energy efficiency projects. This is a key position in assisting the MBTA to meet its legal obligations for greenhouse gas emission and energy use intensity reduction. The Decarbonization Analyst will report to the Manager of Energy Efficiency.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the management of energy efficiency and decarbonization projects.
- Assist with utility incentive applications from application to inspection.
- Complete project tracking and reporting of key performance indicators for the energy and decarbonization program.
- Assist with procurement documents from project initiation to completion.
- Assist with the Planning, development, and implementation of energy projects that help the MBTA eet its legal requirements to reduce energy consumption, on-site burning of fossil fuels, emissions, and increase renewable energy generations as outlined in Executive Order 594.
- Assist with the installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations utilizing the Utility's "Make Ready Program"
- Participate in capital project planning and design, assisting capital delivery to ensure all projects include energy efficiency and decarbonization measures.
- Assist Manager of Energy Efficiency and Capital Delivery in maximizing utility incentives for capital projects as needed.
- Assist the Environmental Department in communicating environmental requirements for capital projects as needed.
- Assist the Environmental Department in identifying resiliency needs within capital projects and provide advisory services as needed.
- Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the Authority's "Driven by Customer Service" quality standard.
- Work any and all shifts as assigned or directed.
- Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
- Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Finance, Economics, or related field
- Two (2) years of demonstrated experience in the energy efficiency or decarbonization field.
- Have a demonstrated knowledge of energy efficiency measures.
- Ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Database applications.
- Ability to effectively communicate with outside contractors, regulatory agencies, community organizations and others on technical and sensitive matters.
- Have strong quantitative and technical skills.
- Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
- Successful applicant must have English language skills required for the effective performance of the position,

Substitutions Include
- A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor's degree requirement.
- An associate degree from an accredited institution an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor's degree requirement.
- A master's degree in a related subject substitutes for two (2) years of general experience.
- A nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience.
Preferences
- Experience and knowledge of mechanical systems, building systems, decarbonization measures as well as fleet fuel management; and/or possession of a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Certification, Energy Efficiency Practitioner (EEP), or any Certification form the Association of Energy Engineers.
- Working knowledge of environmental compliance and resiliency components.
- Direct experience using software including Microsoft Office, E-Builder, FMIS, knack, Procore, and EMSYS.
- Experience with incentive programs and working with MA state utilities.
- Knowledge of building systems, utilities, stormwater infrastructure.
- Strong instincts for adapting formatting and visualization options based on the audience.
- Demonstrated ability to succinctly communicate accurate and relevant insights with clarity and verve, especially when source material is technically complex and nuanced.
- Experience managing multiple projects concurrently and ability to prioritize project deliverables.
- Skills or experience in stakeholder management or communications.
