Southeastern Louisiana University's College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Department Head for the Department of Visual Art + Design. The Department is seeking a candidate who has proven administrative success and who continues an active and accomplished practice in their respective art discipline or scholarly field to provide strong and effective leadership as Department Head. Southeastern Louisiana University is NASAD accredited and offers a B.A. in Art with concentrations and a B.A. in Theatre. The department has 22 full-time faculty and 9 part-time faculty. Our mission is to prepare students to become successful practitioners in their chosen professions. The Department is devoted to the highest standards in teaching, artistic output, creative vision, and contemporary and historical research.
At Southeastern Louisiana University, the Department Head is the chief academic and administrative officer of the department. This position is a 12-month administrative, teaching, and research appointment that reports to the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Responsibilities include managing the day-to-day operational needs of the department, including the supervision and evaluation of faculty and administrative staff, management of the departmental budget, and recruitment and retention of students and faculty. The successful candidate must be dedicated to excellence in teaching. Additionally, this candidate must demonstrate an ability to establish a collegial environment, develop facilities, and possess an interest in working collaboratively at the departmental, college, and university levels.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Earned an M.F.A. degree in Studio Art or Theater or a Ph.D. in Art Education, Art History, Theatre Education or Theatre History by hire date.

Experience with the NASAD Accreditation processes.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Experience with curriculum development.
Effective in planning, communicating, coordinating, problem-solving, negotiating, setting goals, and representing the department, college, and University.
Possesses personal qualities such as openness, integrity, and objectivity.
