Job Overview

The Director of Logistics Engineering and Network Optimization is responsible for overall network strategy and quality revenue growth. They must continually monitor, analyze, model the freight mix and make changes when necessary to ensure yield (margin) improvement and operational efficiency for the total network. This role is accountable for improving the technical acumen and capabilities of the RGM team through modeling and tool development, and continually collaborating with Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and RGM teams to ensure real-time understanding of network freight needs. The Director of Yield and Network Optimization informs and influences an overall strategy to achieve customer, lane, and network profitability.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyzes current network, or lanes of business, and identifies areas for improvement in both revenue generation and operational efficiency through reviewing current customer portfolios and looking for new lanes of business. Reviews new opportunities and compares these with the current network to make informed decisions on revenue generating opportunities
  • Researches development opportunities to inform and influence network optimization efforts through the process, software, gap analysis, and key performance metrics, to improve operating efficiency, drive business results and increase productivity. Sets the strategy for and assists in the development, maintenance, and improvement of the Pricing, Yield, and Network technical toolset (costing, pricing, yield, reporting, modeling)
  • Collaborates with internal departments to draw maximum efficiency and value from load planning and routing decisions
  • Develops and executes deep-dive analytics on under-performing customers and markets and creates resulting yield improvement plans, seeking to understand collective efficiency opportunities, drive synergy, and increase overall performance
  • Develops subject matter expertise through external research, benchmarking, and analyzing cost drivers. Provides market intelligence and price trends. Develop a deep understanding of where our risks and opportunities exist
  • Directs, leads, and motivates a team to deliver results by communicating company goals and deadlines; engaging and developing teammates through effective performance management, coaching, and training; implementing continuous improvement methods while maintaining customer focus; and embodying company purpose and values to inspire servant leadership
  • Consults with outside vendors and provides recommendations to the executive leadership team to ensure we have the most up-to-date technology for costing, modeling, and pricing the network

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong Project Management and communication skills.
  • Capable of multi-tasking under high-pressure situations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Data management and data manipulation across Microsoft Office suite (Excel) and in-house systems.
  • Proficient understanding of transportation pricing and costs.
  • Utilize engineering techniques and management principles to implement routing solutions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Transportation Management Systems.
  • Must be able to design and implement Dedicated and Managed Freight Solutions.
  • Attention to detail and strong, self-motivated follow-up skills are a must-have.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum seven years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree focus in Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, or equivalent
