Position Summary

The Director of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) takes primary responsibility for coordinating all aspects of the Residence Life and Housing program. The Director serves to ensure that residential facilities are safe, well maintained, and provide a living and learning environment that enhances student success, student satisfaction, and meets occupancy goals. The Director collaborates with the Executive Director of Residence Life and Housing to set the vision and direction for the department in accordance with the institution's mission, vision, and strategic goals. The Director is a front-line responder to on-campus emergencies and is required to work daytime and non-traditional hours including nights and weekends. The Director is responsible for directly supervising, training, developing, and evaluating the Associate Director and three Assistant Directors. The primary goal of this position is to establish a cohesive and inclusive residential program that utilizes diversity and social justice practices to promote student success.

Essential Duties

CORE DUTIES

1. Directs the strategic planning, organization and implementation of a high-quality living and learning environment predicated on student development theory and practice.2. Projects and manages all aspects of the annual housing budget in conjunction with the Massachusetts State College Building Authority, Division for Student Life leadership, and Finance.3. Ensures that the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are incorporated into all RLH practices, programs, and trainings.4. Responsible for the selection, development, evaluation, and supervision of professional, classified and paraprofessional staff.5. Oversees the design and implementation of all staff training and professional development programs.6. Supervises the coordination of all processes related to occupancy management and forecasting. Evaluates and assesses occupancy, retention, and projection trends.7. Coordinates building assessments, planning processes, and cleaning and maintenance of residential facilities.8. Creates relationships, interacts and negotiates with off-campus vendors and contractors in accordance with university policies and practices and state regulated policies and practices.9. Coordinates with the Massachusetts State College Building Authority and Facilities Management to identify and coordinate necessary facilities improvements, capital repairs and furnishing purchases.10. Responsible for the creating, implementing and disseminating a housing master calendar that aligns with the University calendar.11. Prepares or coordinates reports and analyzes data to inform strategic decision-making. Reports may include but are not limited to occupancy reports; budget forecasts, trends and updates; facility planning documents; living learning communities; health and safety; resident student conduct; benchmarking; mid-year and annual reports and others as requested.12. Establishes or strengthens excellent relationships with key stakeholders: including but not limited to professional and student staff; Academic Affairs, Undergraduate and Graduate Admission; University Events, Facilities Management, Finance, divisional partners, students, parents, and other constituent groups.13. Coordinates and conducts assessments on the department's operations, programs, activities and services as well as their impact on resident students.14. Ensures the RLH web presence is consistently maintained, regularly updated, and aligned with university and divisional goals.15. Oversees the planning and implementation of all RLH marketing and information materials including but not limited to: housing recruitment, staff recruitment, health and safety concerns, room assignment policies, processes, and procedures, living learning communities, move in/move out dates, and other timely information.16. Ensures that RLH programs challenge and support the academic, social, and personal development of resident students, with a focus on empowering student voices, fostering community responsibility and accountability.17. Oversees a Residential Security team that ensures student safety and provides essential services for residential students.18. Collaborates with other campus departments in the delivery of summer conferences, campus-wide celebrations, and other events and activities.

Other Duties: 1. Serve in the Administrator-on call rotation as assigned.2. Represent the Division for Student Life at meetings as assigned.3. Assist with projects and initiatives as assigned by the Executive Director of RLH & Community Standards.4. Attend all staff meetings and professional development sessions as required.5. Support and attend University events and programs.6. Other duties as assigned.

TOUR OF DUTY: Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 4:30 PM, including evening and weekends as required. Telecommuting options are not available for this role.

Required Qualifications

1. Master's degree in higher education, student personnel administration, educational leadership, or related program.2. A minimum of 5 years full-time experience as an administrator in residence life and housing or increasingly advanced supervisory roles in higher education.3. Demonstrated ability to guide complex organizations and assist the growth and development of department personnel.4. Knowledge of student conduct and housing database management systems.5. Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations.6. Proven commitment to providing leadership in enhancing an atmosphere of diversity and inclusion.7. Demonstrated experience creating and implementing programs and services in collaboration with campus partners.8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Familiarity with StarRez, Maxient, and Lenel S2.2. Experience working with academic partners to develop and enhance residential living learning communities.3. Participation in professional development organizations and activities (i.e., presenting at regional or national conferences, serving in leadership roles, committee assignments).
