Engineer, SENIOR ENGINEER, PRINCIPAL ENGINEER – Electric Motor Repair (FOREST PARK, GA)
JOB SUMMARY
This position provides technical support for the Georgia Power Repair Shop for work activities of the Motor Shop. This position supports the refurbishment and rebuilds of AC/DC motors and generators for Southern Nuclear, Georgia Power Generation, Southern Power, and other Southern Company generating facilities as well as various field services. The incumbent will also be responsible for the following activities: procedure writing, repair plan development, project management, nonconformance reviews, technical evaluations, and providing required training to less experienced personnel.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements:
- Engineering degree or engineering technology degree
- Advanced engineering degree or PE a plus
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
- 3-5 years of work experience in a fast-paced repair or maintenance environment,
- Maintenance and equipment repair experience in rotating machinery, i.e., pumps, gearboxes, electric motors, internal combustion engines, etc. a plus,
- Experience in technical roles,
- Development and maintenance of area procedures
- Effective verbal and writing skills
- Strong team player that builds credibility and trust quickly
- Ability to work with people to achieve organizational objectives
- Must be able to support 24/7 operation including holidays, nights, and weekends when necessary
- Ability to make decisions and demonstrate short/long-term strategic vision
- Proficient in relevant computer applications / Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a technical expert for the motor shop
- Develop, review, and approve motor repair plans for customer approval
- Order materials for jobs; this includes generating purchase request
- Write and approve technical procedures, engineering evaluations, and ensure all procedures meet the needs of QA program
- Provide technical evaluation of the nonconformance reports for the nuclear QA program and technical evaluations as part of the internal Corrective Action Program
- Evaluate new technologies and design improvements to gain efficiency and reliability of electric motors
- Attend and participate in the weekly planning meeting
- Project manage new equipment purchases / installs from conception to completion to ensure all expected cost and productivity goals are met or exceeded
- Train employees on how to operate new equipment and ensure they have the technical training to complete their jobs
- Develop strong collaboration with leadership, staff, and union employees as well as our customers
- Foster an environment of teamwork, self-motivation, open communication, and customer support
- Participation in the Repair Shop “On-Call Rotation” and storm restoration events
