The Family Partner provides peer support to parents and caregivers of children enrolled in Wraparound. They work to assist family/caregivers and natural supporters to successfully engage and participate in Wraparound to optimize the mental health services the child is receiving. In general, a family partner is a peer support specialist with the ability to use personal experience and professional knowledge/skills to teach, empower, advocate, model, and support families. Family Partner will also support the Douglas County System of Care in increasing the family and youth voice with mental health treatments and care. The Family Partner will provide services in a variety of settings, which may include home visits, community, treatment facilities, office visits, and other related settings.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Utilize personal and professional life experience to provide peer support to parents and caregivers served by the Wraparound program
- Provide information, training, and support to parents and caregivers to empower them to fully participate in the Wraparound process
- Participate in Wraparound team meetings to assure family and your access, voice, and choice within the process
- Provide a consistent source of encouragement and hope while also providing non-judgmental, unconditional support to parents and caregivers
- Model effective coping techniques
- Educate parents/caregivers and natural support systems on mental illness in children and adolescents, various treatment modalities, and assist in increasing skill levels of the adults involved in the child’s life
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be able to obtain Peer Support Specialist certification
- Must have lived experience as the parent and/or primary caregiver of a child who has experienced mental, emotional, and/or behavioral health problems and/or has had multiple child systems services involvement
- Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license
