Summary: This position acts as a liaison between English and non-English speaking and/or hearing guests, staff and patients by providing interpreter services. Develops and manages interpreter education programs and serves as a resource for other interpreters.
Responsibilities:
1. Develops and manages education programs for interpreters. Establishes certification/recertification programs for new and existing interpreters. Manages education program for interpreters to achieve """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""Bridging the Gap"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" criteria.
2. Identifies, assesses, and trains new interpreters and monitors quality of interpreter staff. Implements assessment program for new interpreters. Develops and implements regular testing to """"qualify"""" interpreters. Provides assessment on an ongoing basis. Test interpreters on a regular basis and ascertain the need for additional training. Establishes certification/recertification programs for new and existing interpreters. Expands program to include additional languages beyond Spanish. Maintains database of certified interpreters.
3. Provides education and training to departments to promote cultural sensitivity and ethical responses. Functions as a resource to clinical and administrative departments requiring information about cultural practices.
4. Serves as a resource regarding regulatory issues as related to interpreter services. Maintains familiarity with regulatory issues regarding interpreter services. Educates departments about Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Serves as a resource to answer questions and provides information as needed.

Education Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● No licensure or certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● If a Bachelor's, requires two (2) years of interpreting experience.
● If an Associate's, requires six (6) years of experience.
● If a high school diploma, requires ten (10) years of experience.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Must demonstrate a fluency in a foreign language and English languages. Must possess extensive knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
