Job Summary

Interventional Radiology provides comprehensive care throughout its procedural areas in several locations, including patients across the age continuum. This position will provide education for staff across the Interventional Radiology areas and will contain a staffing component within Interventional Radiology to patients across the age continuum. This position will partner and collaborate with other clinical and educational teams to standardize patient care processes. Facilitate and maintain quality improvement / LEAN activities.

Responsibilities*

  • Develop, adjust, and maintain program materials for orientation and training of new technologists to the department.
  • Maintain a detailed working knowledge of all supplies, equipment, and procedures.
  • Identify and assign preceptors to train new technologists as well as directly provide guidance and direction to new technologists.
  • Educate staff on new procedural techniques and technological advancements in equipment.
  • Function as a liaison with manufacturers representatives to introduce new inventory to IR staff.
  • Align and maintain departmental technical competencies including, but not limited to, special imaging programs and ancillary equipment. 
  • Ensure education and training meet minimum requirements for regulatory agencies. 
  • Align and maintain departmental cyclic credentials and classes (ARRT, BLS, Cornerstone) for technologists.
  • Develop and maintain a program for in-services covering new and existing inventory.
  • Provide education and support to patient care assistants (PCAs) performing IR related procedures and tasks.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance specialist in developing, training, and maintaining advanced IR protocols and techniques.
  • Work with administration to develop recruiting initiatives to outside facilities.
  • Provide feedback to administration regarding competencies and skillsets for yearly reviews.
  • Showcase and enforce an understanding of policies and procedures.
  • Perform and support a variety of Interventional Procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current radiography (R) certification by the ARRT.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Interventional Radiology experience performing procedures for adult and pediatric patients.
  • Current post primary Vascular Interventional (VI) certification by the ARRT.
  • BLS Certification (AHA)
  • Experience with teaching in a clinical setting
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with google docs/forms/data analysis
  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong work ethic as evidenced by attendance and punctuality 
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Leadership experience as a technologist to include, but not limited to the following roles: preceptor or lead technologist.
  • Clear understanding of current educational needs of the Interventional Radiology staff 
  • High level of self-motivation and commitment to improving patient outcomes. 
  • Able to set goals in a self-directed manner. 
  • Documented ability to effectively mentor colleagues 
  • Documented demonstration of professional behavior and effective leadership

Physical Requirements:

This position requires standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, and/or transferring of patients, moving and operating fixed and mobile imaging and ancillary equipment. These requirements can/will be performed while wearing radiation protective apparel (RPA).

Work Schedule

Primarily day shift Monday through Friday, requires flexibility to meet the needs of the unit. 

Holiday call coverage required.  40 hours/week.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
