Job Description

The IP Paralegal will work closely with and provide support to the Firm with litigation matters. The IP Paralegal will be responsible for assisting with the day to day management of cases including maintaining pleadings, correspondence, document files and databases; assists in hearing and trial preparation.

Position Summary:

The IP Paralegal will work closely with and provide support to the Firm with litigation matters. The IP Paralegal will be responsible for assisting with the day to day management of cases including maintaining pleadings, correspondence, document files and databases; assists in hearing and trial preparation.

Primary Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions:

  • Day-to-day case/transaction and database management; drafts, reviews, and prepares legal documents; conducts due diligence and research.
  • Exhibits technical skills consistent with new and existing Firm technology and is proficient with respect to filing procedures and filing jurisdictions. Provides training to new hires.
  • Monitors dockets and obtains and organizes any documents filed.
  • Reviews documents/materials for privilege and responsiveness; oversees document numbering/labeling; tracks numbering gaps, maintains complete sets of production/privilege documents, and drafts privilege logs.
  • Assists with preparation of court filings, service of documents and expert reports: fact and cite check, Shepardize, Blue Book, checks quotes for accuracy, draft declarations and sealing documents, gathers and prepares exhibits for exchange and/or filing.
  • Assists attorneys with hearing preparation, fact and expert witness deposition preparation; and expert reports preparation.
  • Plans for trial hearings and arbitration. Organizes files, prepares witness binders, presentation materials and trial aids. At trial, tracks time, passes out witness binders, tracks admitted exhibits, helps attorneys find and hand out documents to Judge, jurors, witnesses and opposing counsel, interacts with witnesses, attorneys, Judge and court staff.
  • Retrieves, renames and organizes materials and maintains accurate and up-to-date databases and indices.
  • Logically and systematically organizes materials and keeps up to date indices.
  • Assists with and completes pretrial and trial projects examples of which include exhibits lists, deposition designations, trial binders, trial witness preps.
  • Utilizes departmental training resources.
  • Demonstrates ability and willingness to independently manage projects and deadlines. Works effectively within team structure. Seeks guidance when appropriate. Provides input regarding training needs and performance.
  • Diligently completes day-to-day discovery projects (include document reviews/productions, deposition preparations, and privilege logs); organizes materials and promptly and thoroughly responds to senior paralegal and attorney requests.
  • Completes trial projects accurately and on time. Ensures work quality standards and deadlines are met. Demonstrates ability to work effectively in a team structure while under pressure.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • 3-5 years of experience as an IP Paralegal working large complex cases.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, electronic discovery, Relativity database, Adobe Acrobat
  • PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop skills.
  • Strong communication, organizational and research skills
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Must be highly motivated, self-starter, creative and possess the ability to work under pressure with demanding deadlines.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to confidentially and graciously interact with attorneys, paralegals, law firm staff, outside vendors, Judges and court staff also required.
  • Strong clerical and typing skills as well as proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Position also requires the ability to travel and to work frequent overtime as necessary.

Education/Certifications:

  • BA/BS with strong academic background required.
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred

Estimated salary range is $80,000-$95,000. Compensation decisions within the range are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case including but not limited to the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
