National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer for our Gas Asset Management and Engineering department in Waltham, MA.This is a hybrid role with approximately 1-2 days in the office.A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.
Job Purpose
This rolesupports the identification and analysis of our Future of Heat projects in our Massachusetts Service Territory.The Gas engineering team is charged with adapting current processes to analyze fossil-free solutions, identifying key projects that contribute to National Grid's gas system decarbonization goals and incorporate into our asset management strategy.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to be an early-stage contributor to an exciting team, while getting broad visibility across the larger organization.
Key Accountabilities
The Lead Engineer supporting Future of Heat will focus on:
- Developing evaluation and selection criteria and collaborating with other Engineers to integrate into our risk-based asset management practices.
- Collaboratingwith key internal and external stakeholders in creating, developing and implementing Future of Heat strategy and roadmap, aligning with organization goals.
- Working closely with gas and electric engineers, customer facing groups, regulatory analysts, construction and project managers, and procurement analysts, among others.
Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Strong problem solving and analyticalskills.
- Should have a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, and others in a positive, team building manner.
- Strong computer skills, communication skills and written skills required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline required
- 6+ years of experience in an engineering or technical role strongly preferred.
- Previous successful experience working in cross functional teams.
- Preferably have previous experience or training with decarbonization technologies such as geothermal heating systems, renewable natural gas projects or hydrogen engineering projects.
- Preferably have previous gas planning experience utilizing Synergi gas network software.
- Previous experience developing long and short term investment plans using risk-based gas asset management principles.
- Have the ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints. Bottom-line oriented, budget conscious, metric/measurement driven.

Salary:$130,000 - $153,000
Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to Federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
