Course Description

Methods for analyzing and designing glass structures and glass exterior building systems will be covered along with the material, its physical and chemical properties, and its manufacture and fabrication techniques. Structural design methods for window glass, exterior wall glass systems, and glass as a structural element, including a review of widely used building codes and standards will be addressed. The course will also cover the environmental properties of glass, such as its architectural visual qualities, solar qualities, insulating properties, and water management properties.

Responsibilities*

Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks one applicant to teach CEE 501.144, in Winter term 2025 (Jan 1 - Apr 30, 2025).  Classes begin Jan 8 - Apr 22, 2025.  Final exams: Apr 24 - May 1, 2025. The class is scheduled to meet in-person on Mondays and remotely on Wednesdays, 9:00-10:30am, Rm TBD. The position will be 0.30 FTE (30% effort) and requires the lecturer be responsible for teaching students the subject titled Structural Glass & Glazing System Design.

Required Qualifications*

A master's degree, or equivalent education and experience, in Civil Engineering is required.  PhD in Civil Engineering preferred.  Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of structural glass and glazing systems, previous teaching experience and knowledge of the university policies and procedures.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
