Title: Quality Assurance Administrator 3 Location : San Francisco, CA Hours: 40/week Pay Range : 30-35/hr Day to Day:
  • The Corporate Heritage Department (Public Affairs Realm) is looking for a cataloger to lead the modernization of their library catalog. This team is still utilizing catalog cards, looking to modernize their process with use of spreadsheets for digitalization initiatives.
  • Comprised of over 3,000 books including special collections
  • Responsible for developing, implementing & executing ideas for how to update the library's catalog and provide broad oversight in all areas of library information source processing.
  • Proactively provide feedback and present ideas for improving or implementing processes and tools with Quality Assurance impact
  • Perform complex transactional support tasks
  • Provide support on escalated questions Interact with Client personnel on a wide range of information
Must Haves:
  • Required: Either an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or equivalent degree.
  • Preferred: Two or more years' experience cataloging collections for special or academic libraries.
  • Understanding the structure of library-related authority metadata.
  • Experience with working with controlled vocabularies (e.g., LC vocabularies, Wikidata, ISNI).
  • Experience with cataloging procedures and principles outlined in RDA, MARC Bibliographic, Holdings, and Authorities formats.
  • Understand the process of metadata querying, analysis, remediation, batch-loading & mapping, such as MarcEdit, OpenRefine, SPARQL, XSLT, and scripting languages; knowledge of RDF, XML, and other machine actionable metadata languages; basic understanding of APIs.
  • Familiarity with linked data principles, standards, and applications; understanding of library-oriented ontologies such as BIBFRAME.

  • Proficiency using Windows, word processing, spreadsheets (email, Internet, Integrated Library Systems)
  • Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded book cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weight up to 10 pounds
Plusses:
  • MLS Degree
  • Experience in a Library working with library catalog (Library of Congress is the one they work with specifically)
  • Has a deep understanding of the logic behind the catalog system
  • Experience with library archives and special collections experience
  • Conservation experience (preservation of physical books)

  • Responsibilities:

  • Work on data remediation/update activities with controlled vocabularies

  • Utilize tools for metadata querying, analysis, remediation, batch-loading & mapping
  • Familiarize with linked data principles, standards, and applications - Demonstrate excellent analytical and problem
  • solving skills
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Work independently and collaboratively with team members
  • Manage short-and long-term projects effectively
  • Stay updated on computer applications and tools related to cataloging
Education Qualification:
  • Required: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or equivalent degree
  • Preferred: Two or more years of experience cataloging collections for special or academic libraries

  • Capability to lift/carry/push/pull objects up to 10 pounds
  • Flexibility to stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, kneel/crawl occasionally
  • Rare use of a telephone and hand controls
