Scientist III
Performs customary scientific/lab duties without supervision. Designs and executes non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision. Assists in supervising/training technicians and junior scientists. Performs all work in conformance with applicable regulations. Performs all work in a safe manner. The primary scope of responsibility is within the immediate discipline and secondarily within a multi-disciplinary environment. Provide Non-Infectious Disease group with laboratory expertise in molecular, cellular and biochemical mechanisms of disease to meet BIAH's future needs. The incumbent contributes to internal research activities including hypothesis generation and experimental design, assay development and performance, and data acquisition and interpretation. Contributes to portfolio of early-stage innovation projects (such as novel target identification and validation) in coordination with internal and external partners.
Scientist IV
Provide research laboratory leadership to ensure Animal Health Global Innovation (AHGI) non-infectious disease research plans are executed to provide innovative therapeutic solutions that progress through the product pipeline to fulfill patient and customer unmet needs and advance AHID's business objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Initiates, designs, interprets accurately, troubleshoots and completes routine procedures independently and efficiently; initiates, designs, interprets accurately, troubleshoots and completes non-routine and difficult procedures generally without supervision; initiates and execute exploratory research plans and experiments in collaboration with NBE, NCE, Clinical (safety, toxicology, PK/PD, efficacy) and/or at external research facilities. Obtain/organize data needed for bioinformatics analyses and ensure execution.
- Proposes and evaluates the identification, implementation and/or application of assays, methods, and models and their SOPs. Review the scientific literature and collaborate with other BI laboratory scientist to identify and propose solutions for laboratory testing methods technologies. Maintain an efficient record of current assay capabilities, including variability, throughput etc.
- Organize, summarize, and effectively communicate and defend experimental results; present at project team presentations and internal scientific meetings. Draft manuscripts and/or abstracts for publication or presentation at external scientific meetings.
- Project execution: Coordinate the drafting and execution of contracts with external academic and research institute partners. Coordinate shipping of materials needed at external research facilities and/or internal labs for analysis or use.
- Build a network with internal and external collaborators to deliver on material and strategic objectives.
- Represent function on cross-functional Research Project Teams and work collaboratively with team members and Research Project Leaders to advance research projects through the research phase to start of development.
- Responsible for communication of scientific data, modeling, study results and research strategy while collaborating with other Innovation Division functions to enable smooth transition of knowledge from Research to Development.
Requirements
Scientist III
- B.S. or M.S. from an accredited institution in life sciences (e.g., biology, immunology, molecular biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, animal sciences).
- At least two to three (2-3) years of relevant experience in enzyme/protein, bioanalytical, pharmacologic screening, cell- or tissue-based methods and/or in vivo disease models.
- Working knowledge of assays and methods used in pharmaceutical discovery with at least four (4) years of in R&D roles, preferably two (2) years of experience in Animal Health R&D.
- Experience preparing and executing in vitro and in vivo assays SOPs and protocols, and in data collection and reporting.
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills allowing effective interaction across other groups in R&D, with parent and external partners.
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Work independently and on teams with minimal supervision but in close alignment with Principal/Senior Scientists, Scientist IVs and subdivision Heads.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills allowing effective interaction with others in R&D and BI support functions, as well as external research facilities staff.
- Fluency in English is mandatory and ability to communicate in French or German is beneficial.
- Understanding of the business environment and the long-term impact of R&D investment on the business productivity is beneficial.
Scientist IV
- M.S. from an accredited institution in life sciences (e.g., biology, immunology, molecular biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, animal sciences), PhD preferred.
- Working knowledge of assays and methods used in pharmaceutical discovery with at least 4 years' in R&D roles, preferably 2 years' experience in Animal Health R&D.

- Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills allowing effective interaction across other groups in R&D, with parent and external partners.
- Demonstrated project management skills

Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
