Raba Kistner is seeking a dependable Senior Engineer - Geotechnical to join our team in Dallas, Texas. The Senior Engineer’s primary responsibilities encompass the management of routine and complex geotechnical engineering projects that may occur during the conceptual planning, design, construction and/or post-construction phases. The Senior Engineer - Geotechnical shall support the firm’s objectives of meeting our clients’ expectations in a timely and accurate manner while achieving the Corporation’s financial objectives. The Senior Engineer - Geotechnical typically serves as the Geotechnical Engineer-of-Record (GEOR) where required or as assigned by their direct report.
The Senior Engineer - Geotechnical shall support business activities required to grow and effectively conduct the firm’s geotechnical engineering business in the assigned market place or other areas as assigned by their direct report. These responsibilities also include developing new and strengthening existing relationships with clients and market influencers.
The Senior Engineer - Geotechnical must possess excellent communicating, technical writing, and interpersonal skills in dealing with fellow employees, clients, contractors, consultants, design team members, market influencers and the general public. Additional responsibilities will involve supporting the Construction Materials Testing Services as required or as assigned (particularly where they are the GEOR). Other responsibilities include:
- Adhere and support the firm’s safety policies.
- Be responsive to internal and external requests, and responsible for the successful execution of geotechnical engineering projects during the conceptual planning, design, construction and/or post-construction phases.
- Serve as the “Geotechnical Engineer-of-Record” on small to large projects, and approve changes to geotechnical design recommendations during construction.
- Manage projects from conceptual planning stages into post-completion. This may include development of scope and fee, proposal preparation, participating in interviews for potential projects, assisting with contract negotiations, developing and managing field exploration and laboratory testing programs, geotechnical analysis of complex engineering problems, preparation of deliverables, participation in project/client meetings, visiting project sites, invoicing, and assisting with invoice collection.
- Direct staff members to complete geotechnical engineering services. Assign tasks to the project team, monitor progress, and check the accuracy of completed work.
- Review the work of junior staff and assist with training and mentoring of junior engineers.
- Oversee field operations, including utility clearance, required jurisdictional permits and/or right-of-entry agreements, subconsultants, in-house/subcontract driller, traffic control coordination, field and logging activities, as needed. Review field boring logs and provide feedback to the loggers.
- Review laboratory test results and provide corrective actions, as needed.
- Analyze the field data and laboratory test results. Model problems, perform analysis, and develop solutions and recommendations.
- Prepare and review geotechnical engineering analysis and letters/reports for accuracy, clarity, can completeness to authorized scope of work.
- Review the labor and other expenses associated with the projects. Prepare and submit accurate invoices regularly and in a timely manner. Contact and follow up with clients on invoicing and status of payment.
- Prepare proposals for small to large geotechnical engineering projects. This will include review of available literature, historical data, development of site exploration and testing programs, contacting vendors and subconsultants, estimating fees and developing schedule.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing Statements of Qualifications and perform direct and indirect business development activities and teaming opportunities.
- Actively participate in professional organizations as determined by the Office Unit Leader.
- Foster an atmosphere for continual growth of individuals and the corporation. Provide mentorship and professional development to other professionals, technical, clerical and support staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Geotechnical Department Leader
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school is required. Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- At least 7 of experience in a relevant field. Management of large engineering projects required.
- Must possess Professional Engineer’s (PE) license in the State of Texas or be able to possess if licensed out of state within six months of hiring.
- Possess valid Texas driver’s license and meet firm’s auto insurability requirements.
Advanced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Must be self-motivated with good attendance record, be punctual, and be able to work independently.

Position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs. Work responsibilities may require out of town travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations.
