Raba Kistner is seeking a detailed-oriented, dependable Senior Engineering Consultant to join our Consultants team in the greater San Antonio area. The Senior Engineering Consultant’s primary responsibilities encompass the technical management of assigned technical projects primarily in geotechnical engineering and when required, within the construction materials engineering and testing (CoMET) disciplines. The Consultant’s responsibilities also encompass the support of activities required to grow and effectively conduct Raba Kistner Consultants, Inc. (RKCI) geotechnical engineering business in the San Antonio market place. These responsibilities also include developing new and enhancing existing relationships with clients and influencers. 

The Consultant shall be assigned project management responsibilities ranging from scope development, budget and proposal preparation, short list interviews, contract negotiations, engineering and production work, project/client meetings, project site visits, invoicing and accounts receivable collection. The Consultant shall support the firm’s objectives of meeting our clients’ expectations in a timely manner while achieving the Corporation’s financial objectives.  

The Consultant may also be asked to assist in the pursuit, management and execution of Construction Materials Testing projects as required based on workload and/or the manager’s area of expertise. This may include reviewing CoMET reports and temporary management of CoMET personnel, technical/project management training and mentoring of junior engineering and CoMET staff members. Other Responsibilities include: 

  • Operations Management:  Set expectations and monitor staff performance in the areas of project management, client service, accounts receivable, quality, and safety.  Assist the recruiting, hiring, onboarding, annual professional development planning and coaching for staff.  Lead project management for specific clients and projects.  Monitor client feedback for all projects and work directly with clients to address any stated concerns.  
  • Planning:    Responsible for contributing to meeting financial revenue and profit goals.  Work with Marketplace Leaders, BD professionals and managers from other Divisions to contribute to the success of the Enterprise's marketplace plan.
  • Growth:  Participate in Consultants growth efforts by establishing and managing key client relationships and involving other technical staff in the division's growth.        Serve as a member of the San Antonio Marketplace growth team coordinating relationship management activities and project pursuits with Business Development professionals and other growth team members.  Work with Corporate Development to develop customized statements of qualifications, public relations and sales collateral.  Execute growth strategies that align with those of the Marketplace Leader.
  • Community Relations:  Serve in leadership roles (committee member or board) with targeted community/professional associations that align with San Antonio Consultants and Marketplace plans.
  • Safety:  Adhere and support San Antonio Consultants safety activities in alignment with the firm’s safety culture.  Assign safety officers. Participate in ongoing safety training and compliance.
  • Quality Management:  Participate and support the implementation of the firm's Standard Operating Procedures and quality management practices for Consultants.
  • Understand, adhere and participate in the Raba Kistner Health and Safety and Behavior based objectives
  • Promote safety programs and set a good safety example.
  • Foster an atmosphere for continual growth of individuals and the corporation.        Provide mentorship and professional development to other professionals, technical, clerical and support staff in the regional office.  Assist the corporation in expanding the scope and technological level of services currently provided.
  • Make decisions with Supervisor regarding professional personnel (hiring, releases, utilization goals, assignments, and salary/benefits).  
  • Evaluate monthly financial reports and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Carry out corporate management assignments when called upon.
  • Manage accounts receivable activities supported by Corporate Finance and Administration.
  • Seek Supervisor’s input and approval for unbudgeted major expenditures.
  • Recruit qualified staff and managers relying upon their knowledge of the local market and technical capabilities to meet the goals of the regional office and corporation.
  • Routinely evaluate work and personnel against established performance standards.  Possess the ability to deal with difficult project management and relationship problems in a constructive manner.
  • Be adept at coordinating, facilitating, balancing workloads and mediating disputes.
  • Formally review staff performance annually, as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited school and 10 years of relevant Civil Engineering experience in geotechnical and construction materials testing required. 
    • Minimum of 10 years of applicable supervisory and senior management experience. 
    • Must have a Professional Engineer’s (P.E.) License for the State of Texas or if licensed in another state have the ability to obtain Texas license within 3 months. Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school is preferred.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet company’s auto insurability requirements.

    Good oral and written communications skills and ability to work in teams at different levels within the organization. Advanced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Must be self-motivated with good attendance record and be able to work independently. Management skills to supervise project teams as well as monitor and evaluate progress of projects.

    While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, stop, and talk. Occasionally required to lift and/or move 45 pounds to include, but not limited to, tools, sample containers, and equipment. Frequently required to use hands and reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, focus vision and depth vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (business office with computers/printers, light traffic, etc.) or loud.

    Potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment.

    Position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs.  Able to drive vehicle short and long distances. Work responsibilities require out of town travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices and project locations. Able to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain.
