Wealth and Asset Management (WAM) Engineering is an organization within Schwab Technology Services aligned to support the technology needs of Schwab Asset Management (SAM), Wealth & Advice Solutions (WAS), the Schwab Center for Financial Research (SCFR), and Third-Party Platform teams. WAM Engineering Technology Operations, an organization within WAM Engineering, provides Technology Operations support to SAM, which is a critical area for Schwab.
You will play an important role in supporting a suite of front office, middle and back office applications critical to the portfolio managers and traders within SAM and find ways to improve efficiency and reduce manual tasks. You will be working with a team of talented and highly motivated technologists that strive to ensure applications and process compliment Schwab's SAM business, and the users benefit from high availability Service Level Agreements for our applications. Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, communication, negotiation, curiosity, and ability to learn technologies quickly are key qualities for success in this role.
In this newly created role, you will support the continued growth of the SAM business. As a Support Engineer in Technology Operations, you will provide expert operational support with an emphasis on automation and improved user experience.The goal is to ensure our business partners have reliable systems to drive business growth.If you are looking to be empowered to own and refine production operations best practices and tools for observability, maintenance, and incident management, this could be the role for you.
What you have
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk), with a proven track record of setting up dashboards and alerts.
- Developed scripts or tools that reduced repetitive operational toil.
- 7+ years of experience with a systems programming language, such as Python, PowerShell, C# or Java, dotNet, JavaScript, and shell scripting
- 7+ years of experience with GitHub, Bamboo, Bitbucket
- 7+ years in a client facing production support role responsible for enterprise applications, infrastructure, and systems
- Minimum 3+ years of experience designing and implementing highly scalable and fault tolerant systems.
- In-depth knowledge of resilience patterns (i.e. circuit breakers, timeouts, retries, etc.) and how to design and implement them.
- In-depth knowledge of CICD processes and tools to ensure software is delivered safely using known deployment strategies (i.e. blue/green, canary deployments, feature toggles, etc.).
- Experience with Enterprise Systems that includes but not limited to:
- Event and Incident Management
- Release and Enterprise Change Management
- 5+ years leading projects, developing technical strategy, and mentoring junior engineers
Preferred Qualifications
- Partner with support, development, and business stakeholders to develop, measure, and leverage service level objectives.
- Design and develop solutions to eliminate toil and manual effort from day-to-day support responsibilities.
- Identify and implement improvements to logging, metrics, and tracing telemetry and triaging capabilities across a diverse technology stack.
- Perform chaos engineering experiments to improve application resilience to known and unknown failures.
