Research, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
Position Summary
• Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
• Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
• Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
• Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
• May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
• Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
• Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
• Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
• Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
Essential Functions
• Lead major mechanical design and installation projects with a focus on cost, schedule, and robust design.
• Create and maintain drawings for all new and existing equipment and layouts.
• Actively troubleshoot and conceive of unique solutions to persistent manufacturing problems.
• Develop ideas for capital expenditure projects that will increase process efficiency and decrease manufacturing costs.
• Work in a team environment and function as a leader in mechanical and design solutions to process engineering problems.
• Participate on teams to help make necessary improvements and changes to all process related issues in the Operations department.
Key Abilities Required to Perform Essential Functions:
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Good computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office products.
• Detail oriented.
• Ability to function as a project leader from concept/design to fully executed.
• Ability to function in a team environment.
• Ability to function autonomously, executing to overall business goals and objectives with minimal oversight and within delegated authority.
• Ability to solve complex problems by evaluating information and data.
• Commitment to operating safely, with environmental awareness, and with a focus on producing a quality product.
Basic Qualifications:
• A Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 9 years of experience in the field OR a master's degree in engineering with 7 years of experience in the field OR 13 years of engineering experience
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to obtain clearance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Explosives as an Employee Possessor.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated hands-on mechanical ability
• Must pass RFAAP badging requirements, including background check and drug screening.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
