Summary:
The Mobile App Vertical at Vivint is seeking a Senior Platform QA Engineer to take ownership of backend service testing and ensure release readiness as part of our CI/CD deployment pipeline. This role is critical in maintaining the reliability and scalability of backend services that power Vivint’s mobile applications. As a senior engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including development, product, release, and DevOps, and test backend services. You will also play a key role in building a framework for backend testing, mentoring QA engineers, and streamlining CI/CD processes to ensure high-quality, seamless releases.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead backend testing efforts for microservices and APIs, including feature, regression, and performance testing.
- Develop and execute test strategies for backend services integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
- Manage code releases by reviewing and approving PRs, merging code, and resolving complex conflicts in Git or BitBucket.
- Collaborate with release, DevOps, and engineering teams to ensure release readiness and smooth CI/CD deployments using Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Own the backend service testing framework and conduct in-depth testing using tools like Postman, Insomnia, or Paw.
- Mentor QA engineers on best practices for backend testing, release management, and automation.
- Analyze test results, monitor CI/CD metrics, and identify areas for process improvements to increase efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with product and development teams to align backend testing efforts with platform goals and release timelines.
Required Skills, Experience & Education:
- 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance with a focus on backend service testing.
- Expertise in developing test strategies for backend services, APIs, and microservices.
- 3+ years of experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Strong experience with Git and BitBucket, including:
- Code merging and resolving conflicts.
- Proficiency with Postman, Insomnia, or Paw for API and service testing.
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with experience mentoring other QA engineers.
- Proven ability to drive release readiness across cross-functional teams.
- AS/BS in Computer Science or 7+ years of relevant experience in software quality or development.
Preferred Skills, Experience & Education:
- Automation experience in Go or Python.
- Experience testing services leveraging gRPC.
- Expertise with JIRA for tracking projects and managing sprints.
- Experience building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins.
