Position Summary
The Area Coordinator (AC) is a 12-month live-in staff member responsible for all facets of the Residence Life & Housing program for their assigned residential area. The primary goal of this position is to establish a cohesive and inclusive residential community utilizing diversity and social justice practices to promote student success. The AC serves as a front-line responder in on-campus emergency situations and is required to work daytime, on-duty, and non-traditional hours including nights and weekends. The AC is responsible for directly supervising, training, developing, and evaluating a full time resident director, and various student staff including but not limited to resident assistants, office assistants and program assistants. The AC is expected to be knowledgeable of and enforce university policies and procedures, be available to students and make referrals to appropriate academic and/or administrative departments as necessary.This position is designated as a Title IX and Equal Opportunity Responsible Employee and is required to directly report any allegations or reports of potential sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking or allegations of protected category based discrimination and harassment to the Director of Equal Opportunity/Title IX Coordinator.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the Assistant Director of Residence Life
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Provides supervision to the Resident Director in their assigned residential area, as well as supervision to student staff for their assigned residential area including but not limited to resident assistants, office assistants, program assistants and graduate assistants.
This is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

RESIDENCE LIFE:1. Provide general day-to-day management of the assigned residence hall to enhance an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion.2. Oversee the recruitment, selection and training of a diverse group of paraprofessional staff members.3. Oversee and plan personnel and other resources necessary for the opening and closing of the residence halls within their area at the beginning and end of each semester, vacation periods, and other breaks in the academic schedule. Also responsible for opening their assigned residence halls.4. Assist with the room change process and mediate roommate conflicts in a fair and equitable manner as necessary for the assigned residential area.5. Maintain the supply budget for assigned area.6. Conduct ongoing health and safety inspections of student rooms with the student staff and coordinate maintenance requests for the assigned residential area and report needed repairs in coordination with the facilities manager.7. Conduct weekly inspections of assigned residential area to build community.8. Coordinate all individual and damage billing for assigned residential area monthly.9. Coordinate the Room Condition Reports for the assigned residential area.10. Attend all staff meetings and professional development sessions as determined by Residence Life and Housing and/or Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.11. Support and attend University events and programs.12. Serve as a chair/co-chair of a departmental committee and serve as a member of other departmental committees as assigned.13. Provide written reports (i.e. monthly reports, assessment reports and end of the year reports) and summaries as requested by Residence Life and Housing and/or Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.14. Maintain social media outlets for the assigned residential area.STAFF TRAINING:1. Assist in planning of in-service training for student employees.2. Coordinate annual summer Resident Director Training in collaboration with the training committee.Programmatic:1. Implement the programming model for the assigned residential area. Develop and implement programs that meet the unique needs of all student populations.2. Manage the area's programming budget.3. Assist in the coordination and supervision of the residential learning communities within the residence halls as required.4. Support the recruitment of student attendance at meetings and the activities of Residence Hall Association.5. Conduct necessary residential area meetings for students as needed (i.e. opening each semester).
COMMUNITY STANDARDS:1. Serve as a case resolution coordinator and adjudicate assigned cases in violation of the student code of conduct within assigned residential area.2. Conduct Investigations following protocol outlined in the hearing officer's manual.3. Enforce policies within your assigned area to create a safe, fair and equitable space and coordinate with University Police and other offices as needed.4. Ensure compliance with University, local, and state policies regarding alcohol and drugs.
Other Duties: 1. Serve in an on-duty and on-call rotations for the entire campus for after-hours response to critical issues.2. Utilizing an equity lens, counsel individual students regarding personal concerns and issues reported via Residence Life and Care Team Concern Forms.3. Represent the department at professional meetings.4. Serve as a role model and mentor for a diverse student body.5. Assist with office projects and initiatives as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Housing or designee.6. Participate in summer orientation and serve as a coordinator for assigned summer conference and/or summer housing programs.7. Participate in divisional committees, task forces and projects as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Housing or designee.8. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
1. Minimum of 1 year full-time live-in staff experience2. Ability to use and learn Microsoft Suite.3. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.4. Passion for and commitment to social justice, racial justice, and civic engagement.Preferred Qualifications
