The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's IBCS Systems Engineering and Integration team. The team supports Reliability Availability Maintainability (RAM) of the IBCS system.
The Staff Engineer Systems will provide support for the Specialty Engineering team with primarily RAM tasks. This task requires analytical skills with documented results, therefore written communication skills are very important for this team. This assignment also includes interfacing across multiple IPTs and interfacing with the customer.
The primary role of this position includes working as part of a team: planning, analyzing, estimating, RAM modeling & simulations and reporting to all levels from peers to senior decision makers on the system's RAM performance. The candidate must interface with: system architecture design teams to provide feedback on design reliability; operations and support organizations to aid in optimizing logistics support resources; and senior leadership to characterize expected system performance relative to requirements. The performance of these tasks will identify deficiencies of, and potential improvements to the existing IBCS system design relative to expected capabilities and requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Develops, coordinates and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs.
• Recommends design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability.
• Complies and analyzes performance reports and process control statistics; investigates and analyzes relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes.
• Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards.
• Analyzes preliminary plans and develops reliability engineering programs to achieve company, customer and governmental agency reliability objectives.
• May develop mathematical models to identify units, batches or processes posing excessive failure risks.
• As necessary, proposes changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability.
• May determine units and/or batches requiring environmental testing, and specifies minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.
Basic Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, the candidate must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.
• DOD security clearance
• 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD. Degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
• Candidate should possess extensive experience in system-level hardware and software engineering processes, modeling and analysis with an emphasis on Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM), including: Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs); Probabilistic Reliability Analysis (PRA); Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA); Failure Reporting and Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS); Familiarity with software reliability processes and tools.
• The successful candidate will possess a strong knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles, and techniques as well as familiarity with the DoD RAM guide and MIL-STDs related to RAM: Monte Carlo simulation, discrete event simulation, general simulation theory; Relational database and programming languages; Ballistic missile defense systems; Industry standard RAM analysis software tools such as Reliasoft.
• Should have extensive engineering leadership experience in various roles including problem definition, analysis approach definition, system architecture definition, risk and opportunity management, and decision analysis expertise.
• This individual will be cognizant of, and involved in, the resolution of all significant problems and issues associated with the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Supportability of the system across technical, schedule, and cost boundaries on a daily basis.
• Candidate will provide leadership of engineering tasks such as system performance analysis, system requirements analysis and decomposition, requirements traceability, architecture definition, and system integration.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Missile Defense experience
• Advanced degree in computer science, computer engineering, or mathematics and coursework in reliability
• Detailed understanding of Command and Control (C2) functioning
• Detailed understanding of defense planning and task force laydowns
Salary Range: $148,400 - $222,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
