Due to product and state expansions at NJM Insurance Group, a leading mid-Atlantic property casualty carrier, is seeking a seasoned professional for a critical role that involves the supervision of Commercial Lines operations and support staff, and/or customer contact center staff. Provide timely and customer centric assistance to all customers, underwriters and agents.
This is an excellent opportunity for a newer leader with Commercial Package rating experience, or a more experienced commercial package rater looking to make the jump to an entry level leadership position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the rating of commercial package and other supporting lines of business account policies.
- Accountable for department's adherence to Commercial Underwriting policies and protocols, for new business, renewals and endorsements. Ensures department collaboration with Commercial Lines support departments. Ensures processing efficiencies at all times.
- Assists with management aspects of Underwriting processing flow (application, coverage entry, underwriting processing, balancing timing of entries while maintaining entry of schedule rating off-balance lists) in the issuance of new and renewal accounts. Leverage knowledge & ability to perform all department roles & responsibilities.
- Coordinates with Manager to ensure appropriate resource allocation.
- Responsible to coach and develop employees to higher performance levels.
- Accomplishes results by assisting staff with setting and achieving goals and objectives that are aligned with Commercial Lines goals. Monitors productivity/performance standards and appraises job results. Regularly communicates, coaches’ staff, provides training and manages performance issues as necessary.
- Attract, develop and lead diverse team that maximize performance and creates opportunities for the movement of talent.
- Distribute work assignments to Underwriters and Support Associates.
- Identify opportunities to apply and leverage technology to maximize workflow efficiencies and staff capabilities.
- Respond to basic correspondence and verbal inquiries from policyholders, brokers, and internal sources.
- Hire, train and manage assigned support staff. Training responsibilities related to the following activities:
- Assess training needs
- Secure training resources
- Implement training plan
- Monitor progress - Requires staff to deliver a high level of customer service and quality of work.
- Handle and resolve escalated internal and external customer issues and concerns.
- Stays abreast of trends in NJM's Commercial lines of business. Understands how risks, trends and strategic issues affect NJM and policyholders. Participates and supports technology initiatives/enhancements.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Strong communications skills (verbal, written and active listening)
- Demonstrate leadership skills to lead diverse, cross functional and inter-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to multi-task and to deal with interruptions and able to regain focus on task at hand.
- Proficiency in computer usage, accurate data entry, Microsoft office suite and business-related software.
- Able to assist IT in various system related design and system issues resolution.
- Ability to collaborate with other co-workers.
- Knowledge & ability to perform all department roles & responsibilities.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree is preferred. However, industry experience with a high school diploma or equivalent may be considered in place of a bachelor's degree.
- Previous supervisory experience is a plus but not required.
- At least 5 years for commercial package policy rating experience.
- Demonstrates a customer experience and customer centric continuous improvement mindset.
- Insurance knowledge of multiple commercial lines is required.
- Commercial Property Policy rating experience is required.
Required Certifications or Licenses:
- Insurance designations such as CPCU, ARM, AU etc. are a plus. The same for any producer licensing. However, they are not required.
The Salary range for this role is $73,930 - $86,000. Compensation is commensurate with experience and credentials.
