Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$60.265 - $77.761 - $95.258


The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant's years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.



What You Will Do
The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator (TIPC) works collaboratively with the Trauma Leadership. The TIPC functions in the roles of injury prevention, community outreach, clinical expert, administrative, consultant, educator, and researcher. The TIPC provides clinical expertise in caring for the trauma population, provides internal and external consultation for the injured population and prevention, participates in formal and informal education of staff, and collaborates to deliver quality data and reports for research. The TIPC periodically reviews and reevaluates the plan to assure that services are best practices for injury prevention, appropriate, cost-effective, and consistently meeting the needs of the patients, organization, and Trauma Program. Ensure consistent program implementation in all hospital and community-based programs. The TIPC must communicate effectively in verbal and written communication with the trauma team and other sites and departments to address the needs of the Trauma Service and trauma population.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • 5 Years Emergency Nursing experience in a trauma center or trauma inpatient nursing experience.
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association
  • ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) - Various-Employee provides certificate - (required within 90 days of hire)
  • Must have one of the of the following:Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Pediatric Care After Resuscitation (PCAR), or Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • 2 Years in Trauma Resuscitation.
  • Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) - Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN)


Essential Functions

Community Outreach and Injury Prevention

  • Functions as a designated Injury Prevention Coordinator and spokesperson for injury control.
  • Collaborates with the leadership of Trauma Program to identify and develop injury prevention initiatives and education.
  • Identifies, tracks, and analyzes trauma data of an assigned geographical area.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains various injury prevention/intervention programs based on injury data, trends, and community needs.
  • Evaluates and adjusts prevention/intervention programs based on effectiveness.
  • Participates in the quality improvement through review of trauma cases to identify the assessment and evaluation of injury prevention needs, trends in trauma care delivery, and patient outcomes.
  • Develops and conducts educational presentations for diverse audiences (community members, local school districts, safety officers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Provides injury prevention education to patients, community members, and staff. Service area includes but is not limited to multiple Sharp entities and their surrounding communities.
  • Responsible for identifying, establishing, and maintaining relationships with public, private, state, local, and federal agencies, to exchange information, leverage resources, and build capacity for trauma education and injury prevention.
  • Remains current on injury control issues and methodology by participating in programs offered.
  • Establishes an active participation in injury prevention activities throughout San Diego County.
  • Advocates for injury prevention and trauma center/system development legislation.
  • Provides information on injury prevention and trauma systems to policymakers.
  • Investigates grant opportunities and completes grant applications supporting injury prevention activities and research as needed.

Quality Assurance

  • Assists in the preparation for the American College of Surgeons Trauma Center re-verification survey, county, regional, and state surveys.
  • Develops written reports on prevention and outreach activities.
  • Performance improvement activities for case reviews, indicator evaluation, and loop closure as indicated.
  • Assists with electronic medical record documentation reviews.
  • Tracks and trends electronic medical record documentation discrepancy and assists with action plans to address the gaps.
  • Implements evidence-based programs, training, and interventions that are driven by the trauma program's data.
  • Maintains professional competency and current knowledge in injury prevention.

Trauma Education

  • Provides clinical expertise in trauma care.
  • Identifies trauma educational needs based on the standards that are outlined in the Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient, American College of Surgeons, for any employees who support the care of trauma patients, (i.e., nurses, healthcare partners, social workers, PT/OT therapists).
  • Tracks and monitors education and training requirements of healthcare team.
  • Collaborates and supports education and training with any units and departments that support the trauma population.
  • Participants in emergency preparedness activities.

  • Attends monthly team meetings.
  • Contributes to the ongoing educational process.
  • Suggests changes in protocol if necessary to improve program validity.
  • Maintenance of a healthy lifestyle.
