Global Medical Director – CRSwNP

The Global Medical Director role is a unique opportunity for an experienced, innovative and proactive medical affairs professional to provide strategic medical affairs enterprise leadership for Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyps (CRSwNP) within Respiratory Biologics at GSK, throughout the lifecycle of the asset and support for business development.

The incumbent will work on a thriving team environment of medical business leaders where people will be inspired to drive towards achieving our goals of getting Ahead of Disease Together and positively impacting patient and population health outcomes globally.

Within GSK you will set and deliver the long-term disease and medicine strategy for a key portfolio within the Specialty Care Therapy Area. The role requires multi-functional matrix management, influencing major markets as well as the commercial, clinical and medical affairs functions to support key strategic portfolio and external engagement initiatives. This is an opportunity for a talented physician or scientist with a track record of success to redefine disease strategy and what is possible in global medical affairs execution at GSK.

This will be achieved through exceptional partnerships with external experts and patient advocacy groups and scientific leadership to ensure seamless global to local execution on congress, scientific communication, medical training and personalised digital engagement tactics.

The successful applicant will be accountable to the Vice President Respiratory Biologics.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Partners with above-country and country colleagues to drive, integrate and prioritise key insights to inform global medical affairs plans and life cycle strategy.
  • Engages with R&D, Value Evidence and Outcomes (VEO), other disciplines, and country teams to support identification of evidence generation needs and plans to address them.
  • Ensures country medical affairs colleagues have a robust knowledge of the relevant and emerging clinical evidence, supporting their training by creating high quality scientific engagement materials for both internal and external use.
  • Develops external scientific communication and medical education content within Respiratory, using innovative and diverse channels of communication.
  • Implement scientific communication strategy and launches, including reviewing and optimising local medical affairs plans and sharing learning/ best practice/ intelligence.
  • Drives excellence in external engagement with key stakeholders (e.g., HCP’s, Patients, Payors and Regulators) globally and in partnership with core countries.
  • Ensures appropriate medical governance oversight of all deliverables.
  • Partners with Marketing, Market Access, and core country teams to generate content of high scientific quality for future promotional use.
  • Develops deep subject matter expertise on the product and therapy area.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • MD/MBBS/PharmD or PhD in clinical/scientific discipline related to Respiratory, especially in CRSwNP.
  • Considerable experience in pre-launch Medical Affairs.
  • Previous regional/global industry experience working in respiratory diseases including Asthma, COPD, CRSwNP and Chronic Cough.
  • Previous experience working with anti-IL-5 agents preferred, other mABs, notably in major markets (USA highly desirable)
  • Demonstrated matrix leadership in previous roles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategy development and delivery.
  • Keen interest in collaborating with external experts.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Track record of building strong internal and external networks in Respiratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complexity and cultural diversity.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Job Purpose

  • Key member of the Belimumab Global Medical team.
  • Leadership role in terms of global strategy and execution reporting to GML Belimumab.
  • Works in partnership with country teams to create and then implement global medical affairs strategies.
  • Seeks opportunities to bring in external and internal insights to shape strategy and drive medical execution.
  • Works together with commercial, R&D, and other key stakeholders to shape the life-cycle: management plan for Rheumatology.
  • Drives strategic data generation based on awareness of data gaps and most appropriate routes to close these.
  • Turns current and emerging evidence into content of value to both internal and external audiences.
  • In collaboration with country teams develops a strong external network of global experts in Rheumatology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engages with senior stakeholders across global and in assigned LOCs to facilitate launches and ongoing support, including creating, reviewing and optimising brand strategic plans, medical affairs tactical plans and sharing learning/ best practice.
  • Ensures global cross functional and country medical affairs colleagues have a robust knowledge of the relevant and emerging clinical evidence, supporting their continuous training by creating high quality scientific engagement materials for both internal and external use as well as directly supporting when needed.
  • Partner with Marketing, Market Access, Communications, Data Generation and core country teams to generate content of high scientific quality for scientific or promotional use including at international congresses.
  • Speaks at internal and external engagements as a subject matter expert on Rheumatology.
  • Drive excellence in external engagement with key stakeholders (HCPs, Patients, Payors and Regulators). Builds strong external networks in rheumatology.
  • Partners with other above-country and country colleagues to bring in medical insights and integrates/ prioritises these to inform global medical affairs plans.
  • Works with R&D, Data Generation, other disciplines, and country teams to identify evidence generation needs and plans to address them.
  • Develop internal and external communication content on a vast array of disease-specific topics to address internal and external needs. Can work with traditional and novel channels of communication.

    Candidate Profile - Qualifications & Expertise

    • GMC registered or Board certified physician or pharmacist or PhD
    • Specialist training in respiratory medicine.
    • Broad drug development expertise-with knowledge of regulatory/ market access and reimbursement requirements.
    • Experience working in respiratory diseases including Asthma, COPD, CRSwNP and Chronic Cough
    • Experience in Medical Affairs launch and pre-launch support requirements.
    • Experience in a medical affairs in country role
    • Experience in a medical affairs above country role
    • Experience of working within promotional codes of practice and regulations.
    • Experience of evidence generation around clinical trials.
    • Experience of building strong internal and external networks.
    • Experience of working within a matrix organisation.
    • Strong English communication skills both verbal and written.

    Preferred Qualifications & Expertise

    • Pulmonologist.
    • Previous experience working with anti-IL-5 agents or other mABs, notably in major markets (USA highly desirable)
