Job Summary

You will perform a variety of professional and administrative duties in support of the day to-day operations of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Office to fulfill legal responsibilities under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act. You will be an integral part of a collaborative team reporting to the Chief Freedom of Information Act Officer within the Office of the Vice President for Communications. You will assist with effective, timely and thorough compliance with requests for documents concerning University business. You will be responsible for the data integrity associated with all requests and assist with reports of information for leadership. You will retrieve records and evaluate various courses of action and interpret and analyze information to ensure that responses are complete and accurate. You must act with a high level of confidentiality in this role as you work with sensitive materials and support other administrative responsibilities for the office.

    Responsibilities*

    • Interpret and assist with document requests as allowed through the FOIA process.
    • Use project management skills to prioritize, initiate, and complete tasks.
    • Use your analytical skills to review records and identify compliant courses of action.
    • Analyze documents to identify and separate exempt material from nonexempt material.
    • Track requests and report on outputs.
    • Work with tight deadlines and adapt to changes.
    • Provide thorough solutions to business issues.
    • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and all levels of leadership regarding FOIA requests and responses.

    Required Qualifications*

    • Two to three years of administrative or paralegal experience in a complex or legal organization
    • Immediate proficiency working with electronic records
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Basic to intermediate knowledge and application of project management skills

      Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
