Position Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington, seeks a full-time laboratory director to serve as the Medical Director of Contract Laboratory Services. This position provides oversight of shared services resources responsible for supporting non-clinical contract laboratory testing services, including pre-analytical, informatics, and billing teams. This position also works closely with laboratories performing contracted testing to ensure that the overall services align with client expectations. As the faculty leader of Contract Laboratory Services, the qualified applicant will work closely with administrative leadership and management to develop the teams and infrastructure required to support these services long term and further develop our Departments ability to improve the health of the public through innovative laboratory testing. In addition to the Medical Director of Contract Laboratory Services responsibilities, applicants will be expected to provide service under one or more departmental divisions or sections, including (but not limited to) informatics, clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, genetics, or anatomic pathology subspecialties. The position will report to the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in their Contract Laboratory Services oversight capacity, in addition to one or more division/section heads based on their additional service responsibilities. Applicants are also expected to contribute research/scholarly work in an area of their choosing. Additional responsibilities include the teaching of residents, fellows, medical students and medical laboratory scientist program undergraduates in the domain(s) of greatest interest and expertise.

This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, without tenure due to reasons of funding, commensurate with experience and qualificiations.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and Full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of October 1, 2024, but is flexible.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professors: $12,132 to $16,215 per month ($145,578 to $194,576 annually); Associate Professors: $15,706 to $19,321 per month ($188,473 to $231,466 annually); Professors: $19,738 to $26,107 per month ($236,854 to $313,288 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan.

Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess an earned PhD in a related field (or foreign equivalent) and be board certified in Clinical Chemistry by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry.
